Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News two year later. From 1981 onwards, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was a panelist in 1988's presidential debates in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan many times for summits, and to discuss matters like the Iran Contra controversy.
